The Ponda police have registered a criminal offense against a police constable for allegedly assaulting and abusing 27-year-old local.
According to South Goa police, Shreyash Hardikar, a resident of Curti, Ponda lodged a compliant alleging that on September 10 around 10.40 pm, the accused Vinod (full name not known) of Antruz Nagar and serving as a police constable, assaulted him with a wooden dowel rod.
The complainant sustained simple injuries, and his mobile phone was also damaged. As per the FIR, the accused further allegedly used abusive language against the complainant.
Based on the complaint and a preliminary inquiry, Ponda Police Station booked the policeman under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and begun an investigation.
South Goa Superintendent of Police, Tikam Singh Verma in a statement, reiterated that misconduct or illegality by police personnel, whether on or off duty, would not be tolerated and assured strict disciplinary and legal action against those found guilty.
