Canacona police detained five persons in connection with an altercation at a house in Khotigao late Friday night.
According to sources, the incident took place as two persons working with the three local Khotigao residents were invited for dinner at Avali-Khotigao.
As they were returning after dinner, another Khotigao resident claiming to be a reporter stopped the five persons at Mane-Khotigao and reportedly wanted to check the bag carried by one of the five persons. This led into an argument, and the Khotigao resident later left the site.The five persons recognised the Khotigao resident and proceeded to his residence to confront him.
The Khotigao resident, however, called up the Canacona police and claimed that some Kashmiris were creating a ruckus at his residence and recorded all their conversations. On Saturday morning, the resident submitted the recording to a news channel who reported that some Kashmiris had created a ruckus at a businessman’s house in Khotigao.
Canacona police detained three persons from Khotigao-Avali, as well as one person from Himachal Pradesh and one from Madhya Pradesh.
When some journalists from Canacona went to the police station to enquire, it was revealed that no Kashmiri person was involved in the incident.
According to sources, all five persons who were detained by Canacona police were later released after completing formalities.
