Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar on Tuesday said 90% of roads have been hotmixed, while Rs 250 cr electricity works have been completed in Canacona.

He was speaking after inaugurating a new 200 KVA Electricity Transformer near Ruby Residency at Chaudi-Canacona on Tuesday.

“Underground electricity cabling will be completed in the coastal areas in the next two years at a cost of Rs 20 crore. Previously, this part of Chaudi was plagued by frequent power fluctuations caused by an overloaded transformer. The installation of the new 200 KVA unit will now ensure a stable and reliable electricity supply,” said Tawadkar stated in the presence of CMC Chairperson Sara Shamba Naik Desai, ward councillor Ramakant Naik Gaunkar and others.

“The electricity department is giving priority to Canacona and since the chief engineer of the electricity department, Stephen Fernandes, is the son of Canacona, the electricity-related works are being completed quickly.”

“In Agonda alone, 6 transformers were replaced and 5 transformers have been replaced in the Canacona municipal area. Now, work on the Karmal Ghat road will start and people will be able to reach Margao in half-an-hour and then in 1 hour to Panaji. 90 percent of the roads in Canacona have been hotmixed,” Tawadkar said.

Tawadkar added that beautification from Char-Rasta to Sheller would be taken up in two months.

Taking a dig at his opponents, Tawadkar said the people of Khotigao would not oppose him.

“There were four pending issues in Khotigao village and all these four issues are resolved or on the verge of completion.”

“There are some who are opposing me for the sake of opposing and people will throw cow dung on them.”

Canacona Ward Councillor Ramakant Naik Gaonkar thanked the Telekar family for providing land for installing the transformer.

Among those present were Councillors Laxuman Pagi, Simon Rebello, Pandurang (Dheeraj) Naik Gaonkar, BJP Mandal President Prabhakar Gaonkar, secretary Diwakar Pagi, former BJP Mandal President Vishal Desai, landlord and AAP leader Sandesh Telekar, landlord Poornakant Telekar, Canacona Electricity Department Assistant Engineer Govind Bhat, Junior Engineer Chari and others.
