To further bolster adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), the State government has notified the re-launched subsidy scheme to promote EVs in the State, wherein a subsidy between Rs 8,000 to upto Rs one lakh will be provided to the beneficiaries towards retrofitting benefits, scrapping and de-registration of old internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and for the purchase of new EVs.
The financial assistance, to be provided on vehicles purchased from August 1, 2022 to December 31, 2024, however is restricted to 5,600 EVs.
The state had earlier notified the ‘Scheme for promotion of electric vehicles in the state of Goa’ in December 2021. However, the scheme was discontinued on July 31, 2022.
“The main scope of this scheme is to provide incentive in the form of subsidy to the prospective users for purchase of electric two, three, four wheelers and retrofitting of ICE vehicles to EV in the State,” the notification issued on February 15, stated.
Under the scheme, a two-wheeler is entitled for benefit of Rs 8,000 to upto Rs 15,000 towards retrofitting, scrapping and de-registration of ICE vehicles and for the purchase of new EVs. The three-wheeler will get benefits ranging from Rs 8,000 to upto Rs 60,000 while a four-wheeler can benefit of Rs 8,000 upto Rs one lakh.
The subsidy shall be disbursed in a single installment to the beneficiary; 100 per cent on purchase of the EV and producing documents including Aadhar card, 15 years residence certificate, invoice copy of the vehicle, etc.
The beneficiary has to submit an online application within 90 days of notification of this scheme for EVs purchased prior to the issue of this notification, but on or after August 1, 2022 and in case of new purchases, the application has to be made within 120 days from the date of purchase.
According to the government, the scheme objective is to accelerate the pace of EV adoption across vehicle segments, especially in the mass category of two wheelers, public/shared transport vehicles and goods’ carriers.
The scheme seeks to drive rapid adoption of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) so that the segment accounts for 25 per cent of all new vehicle registrations by 2024 and to bring about improvement in air quality by reducing greenhouse gas emissions reduce noise levels and also the use of fossil fuels by bringing down emissions from the transport sector.
