Recruitment of medical officers is expected to take time, as the government must identify doctors willing to take up postings at the district hospital. However, serious concerns have been raised over the acute shortage of Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) at the South Goa District Hospital.

Sources said the hospital is in urgent need of nearly 100 to 120 MTS personnel to cope with the growing workload. Insiders pointed out that while the administration may be prepared to tolerate some delay in the recruitment of medical officers and nursing staff, it expects the government to fill MTS vacancies on a war footing.

“We understand the process involved in recruiting medical officers. But at the very least, the government should prioritise the appointment of MTS staff to provide immediate relief to the administration,” a source said. “Even the deployment of 100 MTS personnel can go a long way in easing the burden on the existing staff and ensuring better services for patients.”
