MARGAO
A Konkani learning course in Roman script is currently underway for the seminarians of St Pius X College Archdiocesan Seminary, under the Archdiocese of Bombay, organised by the Global Konknni Forum.
The programme aims to equip scholastics with the functional use of Konkani in ecclesiastical and community contexts. Structured on modern and scientifically grounded linguistic methodologies, the course places emphasis on spoken fluency, reading proficiency, and grammatical accuracy, ensuring practical and effective language acquisition.
The intensive, full-day course is conducted by Jose Salvador Fernandes, Secretary of the Global Konknni Forum and Editor of the Roman script Konkani weekly FUDDARI. A postgraduate in Konkani and an experienced academic, he has previously taught at Carmel College for Women, Nuvem, and Fr Agnel College of Arts and Commerce, Pilar. A noted writer and language advocate, he has served for over a decade as Secretary of the Dalgado Konkani Akademi. He has also been instrumental in conducting Roman script Konkani courses in collaboration with noted linguist and researcher Dr (Fr) Pratap Naik.
