Chief Minister Pramod Sawant reiterated that the perception towards Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) courses has improved, now being viewed as superior and job-oriented compared to the graduation programmes.

“Earlier, no parent wanted to send their child to pursue ITI courses. It was considered “last grade”. But now the situation has changed. Graduates face high unemployment rates whereas there is 100 per cent placement among ITI pass-outs,” Sawant said while addressing World Youth Skills Day 2024 in Panaji on Thursday.

He further stated that ITI candidates benefit from direct job placements, which is not possible even after completing higher secondary education.

“There is no direct placement after higher secondary but we have tie-ups with industry associations and corporates across the State… From Pernem to Canacona, we have ensured 100 per cent placement. Recruiters also pick candidates for apprenticeships directly,” he stated.

“There is no need to remain unemployed today. Even if you (ITI students) are waiting for a government job, consider gaining experience in the private sector. You may find better income opportunities there than in government service. There are many opportunities in Goa,” the CM added.

Sawant also stressed on how skill, re-skill and up-skill help make optimum use of human resources and by focussing on skill development Goa can be made Atma Nirbhar. He further applauded the ITIs for becoming ISO certified, a first for any State in India to have all of its ITIs ISO certified.

The government, on this day, inaugurated centres of excellence at five centres in Bicholim, Cacora, Farmagudi, Mapusa and Vasco. Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) were also signed between ITIs and industry partners.
