The 70th birthday of Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Digambar Kamat literally resembled BJP’s election campaign for the coming Lok Sabha polls, with both Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Kamat giving a call to the party workers and the well-wishers in Margao to vote and ensure the return of Narendra Modi as the country’s Prime Minister for the third time.

A galaxy of BJP leaders, including Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, party chief, MP Sadanand Tanavade, Minister Subhash Phal Dessai, Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, Independent MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, besides party leaders, Damu Naik, former chief minister Churchill Alemao descended at Malbhat to partake in Kamat’s birthday celebrations.

The Chief Minister patted Kamat for his 30-year-long uninterrupted political innings in Margao, reminding that the Margao MLA had started his political career on the BJP banner. On the other hand, Kamat said the BJP is not new to him, reminding that he was one of the four BJP MLAs who got elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1994.

“Kamat is fondly referred as Baba. This title has been conferred on him by the people because of his supportive nature and the help he renders to people. Kamat was rooted to the ground even when he became the Chief Minister,” the Chief Minister said.

Saying that Kamat’s entry into the BJP is a huge asset to the party in the coming Lok Sabha polls, the Chief Minister said the Margao MLA will take charge of the BJP’s campaign to wrest the South Goa seat from the Congress.

Kamat did not let down the hopes and expectations aired by the Chief Minister and other party leaders, giving an open call to his party workers and supporters to work tirelessly for the victory of the BJP in South Goa in the coming polls.
