VASCO: A 60-year-old man died after his scooter was hit from behind by a car near the Toyota showroom at Keserval-Cortalim on Sunday.
According to Verna police, the accused driver, Neville Joaquim Mascarenhas, 25, of Covatem, Cavorim-Chandor, Goa, and a native of Mumbai, was proceeding from Panaji towards Margao in a car.
Around 9.06 am, he allegedly drove the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner and rammed into a scooter from behind. The scooter rider, Basappa Metri of Dicarpale, Davorlim-Navelim, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Goa Medical College, Bambolim, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Based on a complaint filed by HC Sandeep Naik, Verna police registered an offence under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS).
The investigation is being carried out by PSI Mahesh Bhomkar under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
