Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar on Monday stated that the main operation theatre at the newly inaugurated Government Hospital and Research Centre (GMC Link) in Tuem will be operational in about 4-5 months, while a mobile tower will be set up in the area to provide internet services in the hospital.
He was speaking to media persons after inspecting the 100-bed hospital and interacting with medical staff and patients to understand the issues being faced by the people.
“All efforts are being made to resolve problems being faced by the people. At present, an average of 250 patients visit this hospital every day. On one day, over 500 patients visited the hospital,” said Arolkar.
“More ambulances will be made available at this hospital shortly. The main operation theatre will be operational after 4-5 months, while a mortuary will be available after about three months.”
“There is a problem with internet facilities in this area due to the non-availability of a mobile tower. A suitable area has been identified to set up a mobile tower at Tuem, and once this mobile tower is erected, internet services will also be available in the hospital area.”
Arolkar said patients had been complaining that doctors from the GMC hospital at Bambolim reach the Tuem hospital late.
“Since these doctors come from Bambolim they face a traffic jam en route due to work on the elevated corridor at Porvorim. Hence, they arrive at Tuem about 30 minutes late,” explained Arolkar.
He further mentioned that all types of OPDs are open in the Tuem hospital on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
“Doctors and nurses are also available in this hospital. The State government is making all efforts to provide employment opportunities to the unemployed youths of this locality,” said Arolkar.
He informed that the old water tank in front of the hospital will be demolished and a new water tank has been erected in the hospital area. Water will be supplied to Tuem hospital from this new tank,” said the MLA.
