Amid speculations that Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar could be one of the ST leaders who may be elevated as minister after Govind Gaude was dropped from the cabinet on Wednesday, Tawadkar said no one had approached him till now.
He went on to add that he was not in contention to fill the vacant cabinet berth.
When asked if he was in line as an ST leader to be inducted into the cabinet, Tawadkar told The Goan that there is nothing at his end at the moment. “No one approached me as such till now and I am nowhere in the reckoning,” said Tawadkar. “At present, I am at the strongest position (Speaker) and why should I opt for something of lesser prominence,” asked Tawadkar.
When queried that his name is now being discussed as a replacement for Gaude, Tawadkar said: “Let us wait and see what the party has to say. After all, it will be the party's decision and we have to abide by it. Everything will be known in the next 2-3 days.”
