The Colva police have arrested a resident of Mazilwaddo-Benaulim for alleged trespass and mischief in connection with a complaint lodged by the Attorney of Fabrica of Holy Trinity Church, Benaulim.
Colva police station in-charge, PI Theron D’Costa informed that the police have arrested one Jeorisco Gonsalves as per a complaint lodged by Edwin Fernandes, the Attorney of Fabrica of Holy Trinity Church, Benaulim.
The complaint stated that the accused person allegedly broke open the lock of the main gate of Holy Trinity Church compound, effected entry into the open premises of the Church and further damaged the lock of another left side door of the Church, thereby committing an offence punishable under section 453 and 427 of the IPC.
The Holy Trinity Church, Benaulim was in the news last week when tension rent the air after the parishioners demanded the immediate transfer of the parish priest. The Parish Priest Anthony Rodrigues later tendered his resignation as parish priest with effect from May 31.
The Church, however, has remained closed since then. Episcopal Vicar, South Fr Lucio Dias said the Church stands closed for the moment since the parish priest had tendered his resignation and no replacement has been announced till date.
