PANAJI: A 38-year-old man from Hubli was rescued from drowning during Ganesh idol immersion at Mapusa tar last night.
In a statement issued by Drishti Marine, the incident occurred around 9:30 pm when the man entered the pond to retrieve a stool used during immersion, which had drifted away.
"Caught in a strong current, he panicked and called for help. On-duty Drishti Marine lifesaver Rakesh Kumar swiftly intervened and pulled the man safely ashore. He was unharmed and required no further medical attention," it said.
Drishti Marine has deployed trained lifesavers across 47 visarjan sites in Goa, including 35 beaches and 12 inland locations, to support the state administration in ensuring safety. The teams will continue to be stationed at immersion points on September 2, 4, 6 and 17 (21st day visarjan).
