The Association of All Goa Muslim Jamat has petitioned Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and other authorities for permission and security arrangements for the upcoming Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi Julus procession.
In a press note, the association stated that Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi has been celebrated peacefully in Goa for generations, as well as across the globe.
In its representation to the chief minister, chief secretary, director general of police, collectors and superintendents of police (North & South Goa), the Association expressed concern that “certain disruptive, ignorant and uninformed elements are attempting to mislead communities by portraying the Julus as a ‘new practice’ or a ‘show of strength’, which is completely false and provocative.”
“Such narratives are aimed at disturbing Goa’s communal harmony and undermining law enforcement authorities.”
The association reaffirmed that the Muslim community of Goa “will continue to conduct the celebrations in a disciplined and respectful manner, controlling anger and emotions...”
The association has requested authorities to grant permission for the Julus in all respective areas, to provide adequate security arrangements to ensure peace and order, and to take preventive action against those attempting to provoke divisions or spread misinformation.
Emphasising Goa’s social fabric, the association stated that Goa has always been a land of unity in diversity, peace and communal harmony.
“We humbly appeal to the Government and all communities to uphold this precious social fabric and not allow divisive elements to disturb the brotherhood that defines our State,” the Association stated.
The Association assured the people of Goa that the Muslim community remains committed to being law-abiding citizens and partners in peace, celebrating Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi with devotion, dignity and respect for all.
