Sarzora Sports Club march into quarter-finals

MARGAO: Sarzora Sports Club advanced to the quarter-finals of the 51st Chandor Seamen Trophy Football Tournament after defeating Navelim Sporting Club 2-0 at the Chandor Church Complex ground on Saturday.

Organised by Chandor Club, the tournament saw Sarzora and Navelim battle out a goalless first half, with neither side able to find a breakthrough.

Sarzora, however, came out with greater intent after the break and took the lead in the 40th minute through Larson Rebello.

Navelim tried to respond but struggled to break through Sarzora’s defence. Sarzora then extended their lead in the 48th minute when Nigel Viegas found the net to make it 2-0.

Navelim Sporting Club pushed forward in search of a way back into the contest, but Sarzora remained organised at the back and comfortably protected their advantage until the final whistle.

With the 2-0 victory, Sarzora Sports Club secured their place in the quarter-finals.

Larson Rebello was named Player of the Match. The award was presented by former Chandor Club president Agnelo Fernandes.
