OLD GOA
Stating that people’s participation is important in the development of the village, Merces sarpanch Parmod Kamat urged the public to attend the gram sabhas and programmes of the panchayat.
Kamat was speaking to reporters after unveiling the electronic information board outside the Merces panchayat to display the programmes organized by the panchayat.
“We have unveiled the electronic information board so that the villagers become aware of the holding of the gram sabha and programmes organised by the panchayat,” Kamat stated.
“We want to ensure that the public is aware of the happenings in the panchayat as their participation is very important in the development of the village,” the sarpanch added, while stating that the villagers should attend the gram sabha in large numbers and put forth their proposals.
“It is important that a large number of villagers participate in the gram sabha to ensure holistic development of the village and with the electronic information board, I hope that the villagers would be made aware of the holding of the gram sabhas and other programmes,” Kamat added.
Stating that it is a good initiative of the panchayat to display information on gram sabhas and panchayat functions on the electronic board, a village Gabriel Braganza hoped that it would lead to greater awareness among the villagers.
Another villager however said that such electronic boards should be installed in other parts of the village which are frequently used by the locals.
“For instance, the junction at Dovornem near Bappa’s hotel is the place which is frequented by the villagers and the panchayat should see that one such board is also installed there,” the villager said.
Reacting to the demand, sarpanch Kamat said that the current electronic board was sponsored through CSR by a company from Verna and he will try to get more such boards through CSR.
Panchas, villagers and others were also present for the function.
Issue of septic discharge in fields taken up with higher authorities: Kamat
Stating that he is not a sarpanch who accepts bribes, Merces Sarpanch Pramod Kamat said the panchayat has taken the issue of the discharge of septic waste in the fields by tankers to higher authorities.
Speaking to reporters, Kamat said that there are rumours being spread by some that the sarpanch has kept quiet on the issue due to bribes.
“Let me tell everybody that the panchayat has written to the Collector, the GSPCB to initiate action in the matter,” Kamat stated.
