Criticising the government over the price hike in domestic cooking gas, petrol and diesel fuel, the Mahila Congress on Saturday demanded the release of subsidy on LPG gas cylinders which had not been given since the last one-and-half years.

They accused the government of hiking the price of LPG by Rs 25 per cylinder for the second straight month.

"Increase in these prices have added to burden on people who are already hit by cyclone, floods and pandemic. We have given a memorandum to the chief minister to immediately release the gas cylinder subsidy, which has not been released since the last one-and-half years,” said Goa Mahila Congress President Beena Naik, during a news conference in Panaji.

Naik also claimed the hike in diesel and petrol prices had, in turn, affected the prices of essential commodities.

Panaji Mahila Block President Muktamala Fondvekar said repeated agitations against price rise had not bothered the government and it continued to increase prices of essential commodities.

Mahila Congress leader Fernanda Colaco said the prices of all essential commodities should be lowered to reasonable levels to give relief to people.
