Shristhal Biodiversity Management Committee member Shirish Pai has been co-opted as member (south district) on the expert committee of Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB).
The GSBB's expert committee is responsible for designing, implementation and skilling for building eco-friendly water retention /bunds structures across the State.
In a communique received by Pai, GSBB Member Secretary Dr Pradeep Sarmokadam stated that Pai had been approved as co-opted member along with four other members on the expert committee constituted on January 31, 2019, and his selection in project mode will be with effect from April 6 till January 2022 or co-terminus with the term GSBB constituted.
The Dy Collector (Revenue) North, The Dy Collector (Revenue) South, Chief Engineer, Water Resources Department, Prof Bhushan Bhave (North District) and Shirish Pai (South District) are the committee members.
Dr Sarmokadam stated that contribution of members as part of the expert committee would go a long way in conservation of biodiversity in the State.
It may be recalled that the Shristhal BMC has received widespread recognition in efforts to conserve biodiversity and has even won three different category awards of Goa State Biodiversity Board for various contributions at the village, taluka and state level.
The Shristhal BMC, which is headed by an environmentalist Engr Vinay Tubki, has been conducting several projects on conserving environment. The BMC had also worked tirelessly during the lockdown last year, providing support and aid to migrants, students and even villagers affected by lack of income during the lockdown.
