The Cyber Crime Police have arrested six persons for allegedly operating an online Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket at Sangolda, seizing items worth Rs 10 lakh approx during a late-night raid.
Details shared by the Cyber Crime state that the accused, hailing from Gujarat, Rajasthan and West Bengal, were caught red-handed while accepting cricket bets through online platforms such as “MG Lion” and “Kabook 1” using multiple mobile phones connected via Wi-Fi.
The accused have been identified as Gediya Raj Dilipbhai (Surat, Gujarat), Bhimraj Meena (Udaipur, Rajasthan), Nilesh Ratibhai Hirani (Surat, Gujarat), Shani Dipakbhai Chavada (Surat, Gujarat), Rokad Yash Jaysukhbhai (Amreli, Gujarat), and Prashant (Bardhaman, West Bengal).
Police said the accused used SIM cards and accounts registered under different identities and transferred betting money through multiple mule accounts, thereby committing identity theft to facilitate illegal gambling activities.
During the raid, police seized six laptops, Rs 31,000 cash, around 50 ATM cards, several mule account kits, and multiple mobile phones, with the total value of the seized items estimated at around Rs 10 lakh.
A case under Section 66C of the IT Act read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 3 and 4 of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act has been registered against them.
On Sunday, the Verna Police Station busted another illegal IPL betting operation at a rented premise in Sancoale. The accused, from Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, were caught while facilitating bets on a live match between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals.
