In a move to strengthen waste management services, the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Thursday inducted a fleet of 12 new garbage collection and utility vehicles in Vasco, aiming to improve efficiency and streamline sanitation operations across the city.
The vehicles, which include a JCB and a lift crane, are expected to enhance the council’s capacity to handle solid waste more effectively, particularly in areas facing frequent collection and disposal challenges. The addition is set to support quicker clearance, better handling of bulk waste, and improved maintenance of public spaces.
The fleet was formally handed over in the presence of Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho, Vasco MLA Krishna (Daji) Salkar, and Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar. Chairperson Girish Borkar, along with councillors, was acknowledged for pushing initiatives focused on scientific and systematic waste management.
Officials stated that the new vehicles would play a crucial role in strengthening daily operations, reducing delays in garbage collection, and ensuring better hygiene standards across wards. The machinery is also expected to assist in handling heavy-duty tasks, including clearing debris and managing large waste loads.
The initiative received support under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) from JSW Group, Adani Mormugao Port Terminal Private Limited, and Goa Shipyard Limited. Authorities said such collaborations are vital in upgrading civic infrastructure without burdening municipal resources.
