Stepping up their opposition to the GoaMiles app-based taxi service, local taxi operators have demanded that their grievances against GoaMiles operators be raised in the forthcoming assembly so that there is a permanent solution to the matter.
The local taxi operators along the Calangute-Siolim coast had met up with Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo at their residence in Parra to inform them about an incident involving an alleged assault of a woman passenger by a GoaMiles taxi operator.
A woman passenger was allegedly assaulted by a GoaMiles taxi driver in Anjuna on Friday night and Anjuna police detained the taxi driver as preventive action. On hearing this news, a group of local taxi drivers went to the Anjuna police station to seek more details about the incident.
Accusing the police of discrimination, the local taximen claimed that police would only take preventive action against GoaMiles taxi drivers but would register cases against local taxi drivers.
Local taxi drivers later met Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo at their residence in Parra and highlighted their grievances.
They complained that GoaMiles drivers have been depriving them of business by collecting passengers at any point. They insisted that GoaMiles taxis should drop passengers at the designated place and on their return should not collect passengers anywhere along the way.
The taxi drivers demanded that their grievances be raised in the assembly.
MLA Delilah Lobo assured to raise the issue in the assembly session so that all legislators could find a permanent solution.
