The Konkani tiatr fraternity across Goa has mourned the demise of noted priest and tiatrist Fr. Bolmax Pereira, who passed away recently, leaving behind a rich legacy in the field of Konkani tiatr, music and cultural activities. His death has been described as a major loss to the tiatr stage and the Konkani cultural world.
Fr. Bolmax Pereira was widely respected not only as a priest but also as an accomplished actor, singer and composer who contributed immensely to the growth of Konkani tiatr. Over the years, he acted in several popular tiatrs and earned appreciation from audiences for his natural acting and stage presence. He had also won prizes at tiatr competitions organised by Kala Academy Goa.
He had worked with several renowned tiatr directors, including Fr. Doel Dias and Alexinho de Morjim. Some of the popular tiatrs in which he acted include Hello, Tum Kiteak Ravta, Podvedar, Chuk Konnachi?, Dev Zannam, Mog, Dennem, Terror-ixtt, Dollo and Oxem Kiteak?. His performances in these productions earned him recognition and admiration among tiatr lovers.
Apart from acting, Fr. Bolmex Pereira was also known for his contribution to Konkani music. He composed and sang several Konkani songs, including devotional and social awareness songs, which became popular among music lovers. He was regarded as a well-known figure among priests associated with tiatr and musical activities in Goa.
Expressing grief over his demise, Anthony Barbosa, President of the Tiatr Academy of Goa, said that the death of Fr. Bolmex Pereira is a great loss to the tiatr fraternity. “Fr. Bolmex dedicated his life to preserving and promoting Konkani culture through tiatr and music. His contribution to the stage and Konkani songs will always be remembered. May His Soul Rest in Eternal Peace"' he said.
Arnaldo D’Costa, President of Non-Stop Tiatr and Triatristanchi Sonstha, said that Fr. Bolmex Pereira was a humble and talented artiste who earned respect through his simplicity and dedication to tiatr. “He was a priest who remained closely connected to the Konkani stage and encouraged many artistes through his work and guidance,” he stated.
Meanwhile, tiatr director Fr. Doel Dias recalled Fr. Bolmex Pereira as a committed artiste and a good human being. “He always carried a passion for tiatr and music. His love for Konkani culture and his contribution to tiatr will continue to inspire the younger generation,” Fr. Doel said.
Several members of the tiatr fraternity, artistes and admirers have also paid tributes to Fr. Bolmex Pereira and remembered him as a dedicated personality who made a lasting contribution to the Konkani cultural world.
