The Transport Department has issued a show cause notice to BMW driver Jagdish Sardessai, asking him to explain why his driving licence should not be suspended or permanently cancelled following the Dona Paula accident.

Transport officials said Sardessai has been directed to appear before the licensing authority on June 4 for a hearing in the matter. The action follows the recent accident in which the BMW crashed into at least two vehicles at Dona Paula.

Last week, Panaji police wrote to the Transport Department seeking suspension of Sardessai’s driving licence. He has been booked for rash and negligent driving and for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. Sources said police also took a bond of Rs 75,000 from the accused before granting him bail.

No injuries were reported in the accident. However, police said CCTV footage showed the BMW being driven at high speed before it allegedly swerved into the right lane, first hitting a parked jeep and then crashing into an oncoming vehicle.
