Organisers urge Goans everywhere to join in large numbers
PANAJI
The “Enough is Enough” movement has announced that its public meeting for Goa Statehood Day will now be held online on May 30 after the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) withdrew permission to use Azad Maidan.
In a communication dated May 25, the CCP cancelled the approval it had granted on May 21, citing a government exhibition at Azad Maidan to mark Statehood Day.
Following the decision, the movement held an emergency core committee meeting on the evening of May 26 and unanimously decided to shift the event online.
The movement said the virtual meeting will feature prominent speakers, including its chief mentor, former Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Ferdino Rebello.
Discussions will focus on Goa’s governance, environment, public policy and public interest issues. The movement said the meeting link will be shared shortly with Goans in Goa and across the world.
In its statement, the movement appealed to Goans everywhere to join the online event in large numbers.
“We call upon Goans across the globe to stand in solidarity and demonstrate collective strength in support of Goa’s future and public causes,” the press release said.
The cancellation of permission for Azad Maidan sparked debate, with some questioning the timing of the CCP’s decision. The movement said it remains committed to carrying forward its message despite the setback.
The May 30 meeting, now shifted online, is expected to see wide participation from Goans in Goa and abroad.
