A post-mortem examination was conducted on Wednesday on the body of Fr Bolmax Pereira, who died on Tuesday due to cardiac and respiratory complications at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim.

GMC Medical Superintendent Dr Rajesh Patil said a four-member panel of doctors had been formed to prepare a detailed report. Officials said the post-mortem, along with histopathology reports, would help determine the exact cause of death.

Fr Bolmax, known for his contribution to Goa’s environmental movement, was admitted to GMC on Saturday after he collapsed at Vasco railway station. He was first revived at Daffodils Hospital in the port town before being shifted to GMC.

Doctors said he was given the best possible treatment, but questions were raised over the medical procedures followed. The post-mortem report is expected to clarify these concerns. His funeral rites will be held on May 28 at Holy Cross Church, Quepem, at 3.30 pm. Earlier, at 7 am, Fr Bolmax’s cortege will be kept at St Francis Xavier Church, Chicalim, where he was serving as vicar, to allow parishioners and other mourners to pay their last respects.

A Eucharistic celebration will be held at Chicalim before the cortege is taken to his family residence in Quepem.

Political and social leaders across Goa have expressed grief over his passing, and tributes continue to pour in for the priest, who was an educator with a doctorate in Botany and was remembered as a tireless environmental campaigner.
