Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) Goa has traced two Kenyan nationals staying in the Calangute-Candolim belt allegedly in violation of immigration laws, including one woman who was found carrying a Ugandan passport in suspected attempt to conceal her identity.
The operation, carried out by the FRRO Panaji as part of an intensified crackdown on overstaying foreign nationals, has also opened a wider probe into suspected use of forged or manipulated travel documents and illegal cross-border movement into India.
Sources told The Goan that one of them is suspected to have entered India illegally through Nepal before arriving in Goa. Officials are now probing the circumstances under which she obtained the Ugandan passport and the purpose behind her stay in the country.
In the second case, the Kenyan national is alleged to have submitted a photocopy of a visa issued to a different foreign national in order to secure rented accommodation. Sources said the document, which showed a valid period of stay, was allegedly purchased for a few thousand rupees from unidentified individuals because its own visa had already expired.
Officials said legal proceedings under relevant immigration and foreigner regulations had been initiated against both Kenyans. Their respective embassies have also been informed as inquiries continue.
The FRRO said the drive is an effort at identifying foreign nationals overstaying or residing in violation of visa conditions. The FRRO also issued a fresh warning to hotels, guest houses, homestay operators and landlords to strictly verify passports and visas of foreign guests and ensure timely filing of mandatory C-Forms and Form-III submissions.
“Failure or delay in reporting shall attract legal consequences,” it said adding the operation was conducted under the supervision of FRRO officials, including Superintendent of Police Braz Menezes and IPS officer Arshi Aadil, who heads the unit in Goa.
