South Goa bans road digging in Salcete and Mormugao ahead of VVIP visit

South Goa district Collector, Egna Cleetus has issued an order prohibited digging roads and lanes in the jurisdiction of Salcete and Mormugao in view of the upcoming visit of VVIP to Goa.

In an order issued under section 163 of the BNS, the district Collector said since the VVIP is scheduled to visit Goa on May 29, any road digging activity by the utility agencies like Public Works Department, Electricity Department, Drinking Water Department, SIDCGL, GSIDC, National Highway etc may lead to breakdown of BSNL Under Ground Cable/Optical Fiber Cable and can cause interruption to the vital telecom facilities.

The Collector has prohibited any person/agency/organisation from digging of all types of roads, road shoulder/lanes or thoroughfares or a part thereof in the territorial jurisdiction of Salcete and Mormugao Taluka, South Goa District.

All the Police Officers of the rank of Police Inspectors and above of South Goa District have been directed to ensure effective implementation of this Order.

The Deputy Collector and Sub Divisional Magistrates of Salcete I, Salcete-II and Mormugao, South Goa are authorised to verify the violation of this Order issued under section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 and to file FIR before the concerned Court/Police Station and to lodge complaint before the concerned Juridical Magistrate.
