A string of credible legislators recently dumped the Grand Old Party to join the Trinamool Congress in Goa. This massive political shift is a result of leadership vacuum, months of indecisiveness, as well as inertia on part of the Congress to take down the BJP in a state that has still not forgotten their ‘Great Betrayal of 2017,’ according to a TMC press release.
Whether it was Luizinho Faleiro, Yatish Naik, Ethel Lobo, Trajano D’Mello, Martha Saldanha or now Aleixo Reginaldo Lorenco – all have one thing in common. They all claim to have been disregarded by the Congress, and none of them were keen on being part of an ineffective Opposition that showed no conviction or will to oust the BJP. So, for all these prominent grassroots leaders, by default, TMC is the only credible alternative, adds the press release.
The latest move of sitting MLA from Curtorim, Aleixo Reginaldo Lorenco quitting the Congress has not just come as a huge embarrassment but has literally electrocuted the Sonia Gandhi-led party. He was not just the working president but also one of the most respectable faces the Congress had. Coupled with the news of a pre-poll alliance with GFP’S Vijai Sardesai, its nothing short of a death knell for the Congress, according to the press release.
Of course, Reginaldo is one of the biggest gains for Goa TMC which has, in the last 3 months gone full throttle, and already have 2 out of 40 MLAs in their kitty. To his credit, Reginaldo has been named as the top Goa performing MLA in an ADR (Association of Democratic Reforms) report. He is lauded for not just his 100% attendance until March this year but also for having asked the most number of questions. With him joining the TMC, the chatter around well intended people wanting to oust the BJP has only become much louder.
As of today, a party that entered the state just 3 months ago has the same number of MLAs as a party that fought for Goa’s liberation 60 years ago. That’s the real difference between TMC and the Congress. While the TMC only believes in delivering, the Congress is rapidly decaying, the TMC press release concludes.
