PANAJI: Goa CM Pramod Sawant today said that the election results in West Bengal and Assam show a clear mandate for the BJP-led NDA in the 2029 Lok Sabha polls.  He also expressed confidence that in Goa, the BJP will win 30 seats in the upcoming 2027 assembly elections.

Earlier speaking, Sawant said the emerging trends from the West Bengal Assembly elections point to a clear public mandate for change, as the BJP appeared set to register a historic breakthrough in the state today.

In a significant political shift, the BJP is seen on course to form its first-ever government in West Bengal, bringing an end to the 15-year rule of Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress.

As of 4 pm, counting trends showed the BJP leading in 190 of the 294 Assembly seats, close to a two-thirds majority, while the TMC was trailing with 88 seats.

Sawant described the outcome as a strong endorsement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. “The rise of the BJP in West Bengal clearly reflects the people’s verdict. They have shown strong faith in PM Modi after the NDA’s performance across five state polls,” he said.

He congratulated the central leadership, including Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President Nitin Nabin, adding, “I believe the country, as well as West Bengal, is secure under the Prime Minister’s leadership.”

BJP state president Damodar Naik credited the party’s performance to sustained organisational effort and strategic planning led by the central leadership. He said the results were the outcome of coordinated ground-level work and strong political management.

Naik also launched a sharp attack on the TMC’s governance, alleging that prolonged rule under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had led to public dissatisfaction. He claimed the TMC era was marked by arrogance, unemployment among youth, and appeasement politics, which he said had built up strong anti-incumbency sentiment over time.

He further pointed to the BJP’s steady rise in the state, from a marginal presence to 77 seats in earlier elections and now nearing the 200-mark in current trends.

Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade said the results across five states reflected renewed trust in the BJP and Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. He said West Bengal, in particular, had become the focal point of national attention due to the scale of the contest and the expected outcome.

“This is the result of the way the Prime Minister is steering the country. The people of West Bengal have delivered a strong mandate in favour of development and stability,” Tanavade said.

He added that the party’s organisational strength, including years of ground-level work, played a crucial role in expanding its footprint in the state. He also acknowledged the role of party functionaries working in West Bengal, saying consistent outreach had helped strengthen the BJP’s presence.

Tanavade further noted that the broader results across states reflect continued public confidence in the BJP-led NDA, citing gains in multiple regions and renewed support for governance and development agendas.
