Bicholim hit-and-run case solved within hours; accused arrested

PANAJI: In a swift breakthrough, the Bicholim Police Station has solved a hit-and-run case within hours of the complaint, arresting the accused driver and recovering the vehicle involved.

The case was registered on the complaint of the victim, 41-year-old Maleshi Talwar, a cable technician from Vathadev, Sarvan, Bicholim. 

In his complaint, Talwar alleged that a four-wheeler coming from Sanquelim towards Bicholim was being driven in a rash and negligent manner by the accused when it collided with his scooter yesterday evening.

In the impact, Talwar fell on the road and sustained injuries. He was shifted to CHC Bicholim for treatment. The accused driver, meanwhile, fled the spot towards Assonora.

Acting on the complaint, the Bicholim Police Station registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act.

The vehicle and the accused driver, identified as 42-year-old Nilu Gaonkar, a resident of Shirgao, were later traced and arrested after an investigation using CCTV footage and technical inputs. 

Further investigation is underway.
