A 59-year-old pedestrian was killed after being struck by a speeding two-wheeler driven by a minor without licence in New Vaddem, Vasco, on Monday evening.

This incident takes place barely days after a woman was killed in a mishap at Chicalim when a minor without valid driving license drove a car and collided with her two-wheeler.

According to information, Mamata Shetye, a contract worker of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) was killed on the spot after the speeding bike driven by a minor without valid driving licence crashed against her on an internal road at New Vaddem.

Eyewitnesses said the speeding bike dashed against Shetye while she was crossing the road and the woman died on the spot, even as the bike with a rider and pillion rider crashed into a stack of utensils of the shop along the road.

A resident, Prakash Gawas, said the woman has just moved towards the road from the horticulture shop run by her brother when the accident happened.

"The boy was a minor from the nearby chawl and was in a full speed on the busy road and this was the reason for the accident. These accidents are almost a daily routine because the kids drive in full speed beyond control on these roads regularly.”

“Many people, especially senior citizens, fear to walk on these roads because of these incidents. We demand that authorities take strict action against these minors who drive without a licence and in a rash and negligent manner on these busy roads,” said Gawas.

Vasco PSI Ganesh Matondkar is investigatingunder the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak and guidance of Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh.
