Around 148 Varkaris (ealking pilgrims) of Vithal Rakhumai Mauli Varkari Mandal, Canacona began their 17-day walking pilgrimage to the holy land of Pandharpur in Maharashtra on Thursday.
The walking pilgrimage from Canacona left after a Prathasthan Sohala at the Shree Bhumipurush Temple, Palolem. Tribal Welfare Minister and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, ex-MLA Vijay Pai Khot, Congress Leader Janardhan Bhandari and social activist Shubham Komarpant were among the hundreds of devotees who participated in the grand Prasthan Sohala of Vari on Thursday morning.
During the 17-day walking pilgrimage, the Varkaris will perform Namasarann, Dhindi, Bhajana, Haripat, Artya, Prasadan and various other traditional rituals, before culminating in Pandharpur-Maharashtra on July 25, at the sacred Shri Vithala-Rukmini Temple on the holy day of Ashadhi Ekadashi.
