The Drishti Marine lifesavers rescued 10 beach visitors, including three Russian nationals, from drowning during the Republic Day weekend.

The lifesavers also conducted a triple rescue at Arambol beach, where three youths from Rajasthan were pulled to safety after being caught in a rip current and struggling to make their way back to shore.

In a statement by the agency, two Russian women were rescued at Baga beach. “Both women were trapped in a rip current and signalled for help before being brought ashore using a rescue board,” it said.

Candolim beach witnessed three single rescues, including a 58-year-old Russian woman, a 42-year-old man from Mysore, and a 27-year-old from Madhya Pradesh. At Ozran beach, a 55-year-old man from Tamil Nadu was rescued, while at Morjim, a 33-year-old Rajasthani man caught in a rip current was brought to safety.

In addition to these rescues, lifesavers reunited a four-year-old child with his family at Majorda beach. The child, separated from his parents, was located with the help of announcements made from a rescue vehicle.

Lifesavers also provided medical assistance to two tourists. “At Calangute beach, a 29-year-old from Chandigarh received first aid for a knee injury sustained in the water, while at Agonda beach, a 36-year-old from Andhra Pradesh was treated for a leg injury caused by a rock,” it said.
