A 10-year-old boy lost his life in the wee hours of Sunday after a tree fell on top of his home in Revora, Mapusa.
MAPUSArrFour other members of the family were also injured after a large Banyan tree came crashing down on three houses including the deceased boy’s home at Zila-bhat, near Shree Vethal Mauli Panchayatan Devasthan in Revora. rThe body of the deceased, Samarth Revodkar was shifted to North Goa District Hospital and after postmortem the body was handed to the family. rHis mother, Suvarna Revordkar, his aunt, Vijaya Revodkar and two of his little cousin sisters, Priya and Prachi Revodkar were also admitted in the district hospital and treated for injuries. rThe banyan tree which was leaning dangerously over the houses uprooted and fell on them taking along with it electrical wires plunging the whole area in darkness. rThe neighbours who came out after hearing the loud sound rushed to the rescue of the inmates and helped in bringing four people out trapped inside in difficult circumstances. rThe locals did their best to rescue and provide succor to the distraught family despite difficult conditions due to darkness. rIt was only after the arrival of the fire brigade that fire personnel could manage to cut through the difficult branches and reach to the 10-year-old boy, who was already dead. r“One of the big heavy branches struck straight on the child’s forehead. One side of his face was smashed. It was a pitiful sight,” one of the fire officers told The Goan. rAccording to fire officials the three houses have suffered extensive damage as tiles, rafters and walls were completely smashed. Most of the belongings inside the house were also destroyed in the incident. rThe fire officials were yet to analyse the financial loss caused in the damage.
