111 tourists fined for not wearing masks

New Year celebrations were dampened for 111 tourists after they were fined Rs 200 each by the police for not wearing masks in public spaces.

Several tourists had flocked to the Pernem coast to celebrate the New Year and many were found without masks at the beaches. Sources said 111 tourists without face masks were caught off-guard when they were intercepted by police teams and fined Rs 200 each for violating the rules.

The sudden police action sent a number of tourists scurrying in all directions, while many of those caught were seen arguing with the police over the fines.
