MARGAO
Curtains came down on the 11-day Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav festivities in the commercial capital with the Ganesh idols from the Pimpalkatta popularly known as the Madganvcha Maharaja and the Margao police station being taken in a procession for immersion.
The Margao Municipal Square opposite the comunidade building saw hundreds of devotees paying their respect to Lord Ganesh as the processions carrying the idols from Pimpalkatta and the police station wended its way through the city.
The procession wended its way from the MMC square to the Margao flyover before heading to Benaulim and culminating at the Dambab Linga at Fatorda for immersion. Sarvajanik Ganesh idols from the city were in the past immersed at Benaulim lake, but the tradition was discontinued in the last couple of years due to the discharge of sewage waters in the lake.
The Sarvajanik Ganesh idols from the city are presently immersed at the Lord Damodar Linga at Fatorda near the Nehru stadium.
