An 11-year-old boy died after getting an electric shock while holding a mosquito bat near an extension board at his home in Bhatpal, Canacona, on Saturday.

According to Canacona police, the boy, Samesh Gauder, was brought to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Canacona after he was electrocuted. Police said that on June 28, Samesh was holding a mosquito bat near an extension board inside his room when he accidentally received an electric shock and fell unconscious.

Police carried out an inquest panchanama and sent the body for post-mortem. The police surgeon confirmed that the cause of death was electric shock, with burns found on the right thigh, believed to be the entry point, and smaller burns on the left foot, likely the exit points, leading to cardiac arrest. The body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem for final rites.

Police have registered an unnatural death case under Section 194 of BNSS 2023, and PSI Ajith Velip of Canacona Police Station is conducting further enquiry.
