CANACONA
A 47-year-old woman from Agonda ended her life by jumping into a well late on Saturday evening in Canacona.
Canacona police said they received information from 108 emergency staff that a woman had jumped into a well near her home in Agonda. Police reached the spot and found the body of the woman, identified as Jovita Miranda, inside the well.
With the help of the Canacona Fire and Emergency Services, the body was brought out and taken to CHC Canacona by a 108 ambulance. The doctor on duty declared her dead on arrival.
Police stated that Jovita Miranda had been unwell for the past 10 years and was receiving treatment at a government speciality hospital.
An inquest panchnama was conducted, and the body was kept at SGDH, Margao for medico-legal procedures. Police have registered an unnatural death under Section 194 of BNSS 2023, and further enquiry is being carried out by PSI Ajith Velip of Canacona Police Station.
