The mercury dipped below the normal mark on Monday but the winter chill is not expected to last long, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that the minimum temperature is expected to rise in the next two to three days.

Panaji recorded a minimum temperature of 17.9 degrees Celsius, which is the lowest in this year as of now.

According to an IMD official, snowfall in western Himalayan region and the cold air brought by the Northerly winds contributed to the drop in temperature in the State.

“The drop in temperature was recorded only in the Northern parts of the State. In Mormugao, the temperature did not drop much,” the IMD official said.

However, the Meteorological department has predicted a gradual rise of minimum temperature by around 2 to 3 degrees Celcius in the next two to three days. Maximum temperature recorded in Panaji was 32 degrees which is 1.2 degrees less than normal.

The IMD officials have further said that there was no system over the State and mainly dry weather will prevail for the next few days.

The highest maximum temperature recorded during the day in Mormugao was 32.4 degree Celsius.
