Valpoi
Valpoi Police have arrested two individuals for the illegal slaughter and sale of meat.
According to SDPO Jivba Dalvi, a joint inspection was carried out on 27 April 2025 by officers from the Veterinary Dispensary, Valpoi, and the police at a meat shop in Nagem, Sattari, where several illegal activities were discovered.
An FIR was filed against Shaikh Cold Storage and Al Khan Storage under various sections, including the Goa Animal Preservation Act 1995, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960, and the Goa Daman and Diu Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act 1978, based on a complaint from Dr. Shiddesh S Pednekar, Veterinary Officer.
The accused are Mudassar Shaikh, a resident of Valpoi, Sattari, and Riyaz Khan, also from Valpoi. They were found selling red meat from bovine cattle, which they had illegally slaughtered in a cruel manner.
A total of 750 kg of beef, valued at Rs 3,00,000, was seized by the Valpoi police, along with slaughtering equipment such as knives, cutting machines, and weighing scales.
Further investigation is ongoing under PSI Sohan Malik, supervised by PI Videsh Shirodkar, SDPO Jivba Dalvi, and SP North Akshay Kaushal, IPS.
