Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Councillor Shami Salkar on Wednesday said both municipal gardens on either side of the Swatantra Path in Vasco will be developed under CSR by the Suvarna Bandekar group.
Salkar was speaking to reporters after she and MMC Chairperson Leo Rodrigues inspected renovation works of the municipal garden located at Swatantra Path.
“We have given the sponsor the permission to develop both gardens which are very old and were established in 1939. As of now, we are taking up only one flower garden and once that is complete, we will take up the other Children’s Park.”
“As of now, compound walls are being rebuilt since they are old and the area will be properly fenced. While the compound will be the same height, there will be an additional green sheet to prevent people from jumping over the compound and also provide green shade to the garden,” said Salkar.
The councillor said the MMC wants the garden to be more user-friendly by improving the walkways and having a disabled access point for wheelchairs.
Rodrigues appealed to other business houses to come forward and take up projects under CSR.
