Clashes erupted between two groups near the Mahalasa Temple in Verna in the wee hours of Thursday and nine persons have been arrested in this connection.
Sources in Verna police said Vivek Kumar Bind (23), who resides near Mahalasa Temple but is a native of Uttar Pradesh, complained that the incident occurred at about 12.15 am near Mahalasa Temple, IDC, Verna.
“A group of people comprising of Rafiqul Islam, Tuzammel Hogue, Babul Hague, Harez Khan, Abdul Halim, Ahadul Islam, Abdul Noor, Fulsan Khan and Savuruddin along with 8 other unknown persons with their common intention formed an unlawful assembly armed with weapons such as danda and rod and allegedly assaulted the complainant and his six roommates, thereby causing injuries to them” said the source.
Verna police registered an offence and arrested nine persons under Sections 143, 144, 147, 148, 326 and 506 (ii) read with 149 IPC on charges of assaulting seven tenants of a room in Verna. The accused have been remanded to two days in police custody and Verna PI Diogo Gracias is investigating the case under the supervision of DySP Salim Shaikh.
