2 held at airport for bid to travel abroad on fake passports

Two persons from Gujarat were detained at Dabolim Airport on Thursday on charges of attempting to travel abroad using fake passports.

According to sources, a complaint was lodged by officials stating that two persons, Rashmika Chaudharya (33) of Gandhinagar and Yashkumar Patel (18) of Ahmedabad with their common intention had intended to depart to UAE by Air India Express flight from Dabolim Airport.

"While checking at departure immigration clearance counter, the accused were found travelling with fraudulently obtained passports issued in Mumbai by replacing their photography on the Bio Page along with other irregularities on the passports," said the source.

An offence has been registered against both accused persons under Sections 468, 471, 419, 420 read with 34 IPC and section 12 of Passport Act 1967.

The duo have been detained and ASI Santosh Gaonkar of Dabolim Airport Police station is carrying out further investigation.
