PANAJI
Panaji police have arrested two rental bike operators for allegedly assaulting and threatening a tourist couple at the Panaji bus stand in the early hours of Friday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Amit alias Atmaram Walke and Kishan Hosmani, while the police issued a notice to Amit’s wife, Ashi Walke, in connection with the incident.
The dispute arose over bike rental charges, wherein, according to the victims, hailing from Telangana (Hyderabad), they rented a bike and returned it on time. However, the rental operators allegedly demanded an additional Rs 200.
Police stated that when the couple questioned the extra charge, a verbal argument broke out, which soon escalated into a scuffle. The complainant, Syed Mujahed, claims he was assaulted by the accused men, who also allegedly hurt his pregnant wife. The couple was later shifted to the Goa Medical College for treatment.
"In the scuffle, Amit allegedly hit Mujahed on the head with his kada, while all three accused verbally abused and threatened the couple," the police said.
