According to former Sancoale panch Girish Pillai, the children, Malbari Sameer (12) and Rohit Kumar Pandey (8) had gone to play and could have taken a plunge in the pond resulting in their deaths.
The incident came to light only after the clothes of one of the deceased was seen near the pond.
“When the locals went to the pond, they found the bodies of both children,” Pillai told The Goan.
The children were soon rushed to Chicalim Cottage hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival. The bodies have been preserved in the Goa Medical College Hospital and the post-mortem will be held on Sunday.
Demanding the arrest of the plot owner, Pillai said it was due to the negligence of the plot owner that resulted in the misadventure and said that they would file a complaint against the owner of the plot.
Verna PSI Diogo Gracias who is investigating into the matter told The Goan that the police are inquiring into the incident and based on the inquiry, a case will be registered in the matter.
