27-yr-old Navy sailor drowns in Raj Hans swimming pool

A 27-year-old sailor, Usman Gani Ansari, a resident of Baina and originally from Gujarat, drowned in a swimming pool at Raj Hans on Tuesday.

Vasco police reported that they received information from INS Jeevanti Hospital, Gomantak, that Usman Gani Ansari had been brought to the casualty department, already deceased, after drowning in the Raj Hans swimming pool.

During their investigation, police visited INS Jeevanti Hospital and found that Ansari, who worked as a sailor with the rank of LEMA (R) at INS Hansa, Dabolim, was taking a promotion test at the GNA Swimming Pool at INS Hansa. He suddenly drowned during the test and was later declared dead at INS Jeevanti Hospital.

Police conducted an inquest and preserved the body at SGDH Margao for further medico-legal formalities. A case of unnatural death has been registered under Section 194 of the BNSS.

PSI Palto Carvalho of Vasco Police Station is leading the investigation under the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak and guidance of Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh.
