Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Churchill Alemao on Monday announced that the government has decided to provide second dose of Covid vaccine for all the seafarers and other working abroad -- UAE, UK, Cayman Islands and other countries at their respective Health Centres from Tuesday.
He, however, said the seafarers and those working abroad will get the second dose after the completion of 28 days from the first dose and after they produce their call letter and visa copy to the health officers.
He said all the seafarers will now get the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine after 28 days following the intervention of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant upon a plea made by him on Monday.
Churchill stated that he had pleaded with the Chief Minister that the second dose to the seafarers need to be given on priority basis as the seafarers, job seekers and others working abroad in UAE, UK, Caymon Islands needed to take up their jobs failing which they would lose their employment.
He thanked the Chief Minister for securing a nod from centre to provide second dose on priority basis to all sea farers and others working abroad.
In a statement, he said the second dose will start from June 8 at the public health centres and they will need to produce their call letter and visa copies to get the second dose on completion of 28 days gap from the first dose of Covid vaccine. “I thank Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for his prompt action in the matter”, he added.
Meanwhile, NRI Commissioner Narendra Sawaikar has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan for according permission to administer second dose of Covishield vaccine after 28 days to internationally travelling students, persons who have taken up jobs in foreign countries and sports persons, saying Goan seafarers will be greatly benefitted by the decision.
