A two-year ITI course could henceforth earn those students who failed at SSC or HSSC examination the same weightage in securing some government jobs, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Monday at the inauguration of the new building of the Goa Board for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education in Porvorim.

Sawant said students who fail in their SSC or HSSC exams will be considered for government jobs provided they have pursued and successfully completed the one year or two-year ITI course.

“In order to get a government job, one year of apprenticeship or one year experience is a must. Those students who fail at SSC should not get disappointed. If they complete a one-year course in ITI, it will be treated equivalent to SSC and those completing a 2-year ITI course will be treated as HSSC pass. These certificates will be valid for government jobs where the recruitment rules specify SSC or HSSC as the minimum qualification,” Sawant said.

The chief minister said that courses for various skills have been introduced at the ITI level.

“The dual degree or dual certificate courses have already started. The education department is also planning to allow students to appear for SSC exams externally,” he said.

“Some schools at the Taluka level will be notified through which students can appear for SSC exams externally. The syllabus for these students will be slightly easier. The Goa Board has been advised to work in this direction,” Sawant said.
