Health officials visit site, collect water samples over complaint of contamination

The health officials of Corlim PHC paid a visit to Dhaktem Bhat-Dongorim (Mandur) on Thursday and collected tap water samples after complaint was lodged by a local whose three family members fell sick after consuming contaminated water.
The complaint was lodged by Ramkrishna Kuttikar who informed that there was an incident which occurred on May 5 wherein the tap water got contaminated with the drain water.
Kuttikar also pointed out that his family is facing health issues since then and there is fear, anxiety to use the tap water for drinking purpose.
Kuttikar further demanded that the water quality checks be carried out along with the health checks of his family members. “Also, we request you to supply alternate drinking water until it is certified that the water is safe for drinking,” Kuttikar demanded.
Speaking to reporters about the incident, Ramkrishna’s son Shubham Kuttikar informed that the water contamination came to light on May 5 after worms were found in the tap water.
“After that, the PWD workers changed the pipelines and also collected water samples for testing. However, my mother, sister-in-law and nephew fell ill after consuming the water and referred to the Mandur health centre,” Kuttikar stated and added that a complaint was then lodged with CMO of Corlim PHC.
“After the complaint, the health officials visited the area and collected water samples. But they have not told us when the result would be available,” Kuttikar stated.
