A man from Maxem-Loliem has been arrested on charges of fatally stabbing a 32-year-old man with an iron rod on Wednesday evening, following an alleged dispute over chicken centre operations in his neighbourhood.
Speaking to the media, SS Chicken Centre owner Shekar Naik of Sheli-Loliem, said he had been operating the chicken centre for the last many years and alleged that Edward Monteiro, who resides in the neighbourhood, had been harassing him and his staff for about three years.
“I had complained to police on numerous occasions including registration of NCs and even submitted CCTV footages of the accused threatening with knives and other objects to my people at the chicken centre,” stated Shekar Naik.
“Police, however, preferred to remain silent and did not act on my complaints often mentioning to me to approach the collector, etc. On Wednesday evening, the accused stabbed my staffer, Sanjay Naik, with an iron rod and he died on the spot. Do I blame the government or police? His parents have lost their son, who was supposed to get married soon,” Shekar added.
Many angry residents were seen visiting the house of the accused which is in the vicinity of the chicken centre.
A police team conducted the panchanama and sent the body for postmortem.
Later on Wednesday night, Canacona police arrested Monteiro in the connection and police investigations are in progress.
